We have started learning about poetry and the importance of the ending sounds. We have read “The Wocket in my Pocket”, by Dr. Seuss and afterwards we created our own characters with their corresponding rhymes. We look forward to learning more about poetry and the feelings conveyed in it.
Today we enjoyed Qatar National Day celebrations at SEK. We had a day full of activities: drawing, music and dances and games, amongst other activities. Then, we had a joint assembly in the main hall. As a tasty culmination to our day, we enjoyed the Arabic food that our Arabic families kindly brought to school. A delicious end to our day!!!
A big THANK YOU to Lucia and her mum, who baked the tastiest gingerbread. We got to decorate these cookies at school and we had loads of fun!!!

Today we had the honour of celebrating Alba’s 8th birthday. She brought a gorgeous strawberry cake and we shared her treat with every one in grade 2. Thank you Alba and happy birthday!!!!! 🙂
This week we have learned how to add with unifix cubes. We did a lot of practice in our classroom but the best part was when we got to become the teachers of our own classmates. We think we did a good job in modelling our first math lesson of the year!!!! 🙂
We are learning to add with unifix cubes and in this way we are understanding better the nature of numbers, how they break down to create new numbers and their position on the units, tens or hundreds columns. This is some of our classroom practice.
This was our unit of inquiry session today, where we wondered about the forces ‘pull’ and ‘push’. We saw the real life application of these two forces on balls and cars. We inquired into what happens when the objects under force collide.
Don’t you love it when students bring interesting things to class and share their interest with their classmates???!!!!
In class, we discovered that 3-D shapes were constructed using 2-D shapes. We made large shapes in school and took some home for extra practice. Here are some of the shapes we created.
