Today, as a culmination of our learning about rights and responsibilities, we watched a wonderful documentary entitled “Living on One Dollar”. In this documentary, 4 college students travelled and lived in a rural village in Guatemala, so that they could better understand a world where people’s rights were often breached.

After watching this we discussed our own lives in comparison to those of people living in poverty stricken countries. We realised just how lucky we are and began to think more deeply about what we, as people, can do to help.

Within the frame of our current UOI, we had the pleasure of welcoming today Ms. Jisu, representative of UNESCO in Doha. She gave us a presentation about the aims of this international organization and we learned a lot about how they work in favour of children around the world. Thank you, Ms Jisu, for showing us the great job that UNESCO is doing for us!

Please, read the Seven Blind Mice and answer the questions on perspective that you have in your folder.

Thank you very much to all the parents that took the time to come our children’s assembly for their celebration of learning and share the students’ time during the conferences.

The students enjoyed every minute of their learning in this unit and that showed in their performance of today, from their recycled costumes to their persuasive letter to you at the end.

We feel the student-led conferences were a good opportunity for you and your child to reflect upon their learning so far this year.

Thank you for your continued support and enjoy the break!

Next week we will be covering our second line of inquiry, based around the impact of our choices on the Earth. Here you have a video clip that you can watch as ongoing provocation for your research this weekend on the topics that you have already started. Bring any further information to class on Sunday, where you will complete your posters and present them to the class at the end of the week.

This week is Book Fair Week! We have enjoyed the reading to us of some mums, who very generously devoted some of their time to read to us in English and Spanish.  Here they are…

We also went to read to read to the Preschool 4 students. They were very impressed at our reading skills and we had a great time being with them. Here are some pictures that show the moment…

And we also got to dress up as our favourtie book character. We did a parade in front of a group of judges and some of us got a prize for our originality and effort put into the outfit.

We have started our unit of inquiry on SOS Earth and have already had our first contact with the concept of natural resources versus man-made resources. We have also researched into what our countries of origin are currently doing to preserve the Earth.

Next week we will be looking at the different types of pollution (land, air and water) and, as a way of provocation, we watched today “The Lorax”. This film is very much linked to our current UOI and thus, we would like you to reflect on it and answer -within this blog- the following questions:

  1. What connection do you find between “The Lorax” and our unit of inquiry?
  2. What type of pollution do you think the film talks about?
  3. Do you feel that trees have a function? Is it important?
  4. What IB profile do you see in Ted, the boy? Please, explain

We went today on a field trip to Maktaba library and enjoyed a session on how to create Haiku poems. We had  a lot of fun going around and playing games as well. We had our snacks in the back garden, where we also got to write on the rhyming wall. These are some pictures that prove the great time we had!!!

In grade 2A, we had a great session today reading and reciting poems in groups. During tomorrow’s session we will continue with our practice and we will try to incorporate some gestures to them. As you wished to practise more at home today, here you can find the poems that we have been working with in the class. Enjoy it!

We would like you to take a look at some of the different poems in the link attached.

Find a poem you really like and learn to recite it.

You can present this to your peers on Sunday in class.
