Today we had our field trip to explore an old Qatari Home owned by Mohammed Bin Jassim, the son of the founder of Qatar. We were able to see many old photographs and artifacts of old Msheireb. Later we had the chance to see how the neighborhood has transformed into a more sustainable place. At the end of our tour, the museum hosted a creative art activity with clay.

On Tuesday, Grade 2 students visited Souq Waqif for a great Scavenger Hunt around the market place. They were given clues and had to discover which part of the Souq to visit. Their stops included the Spice Market, Arts Market, Textiles and Cushion Market, Carpet Market, Horse Stables and the Camel Pen. They had to ask vendors and visitors for directions and information to answer questions related to our unit. We had so much fun!!!

During our second unit of inquiry, we have been learning about how different communities develop its members and their responsibilities.

We brainstormed questions for many key people in our school community and had the chance to interview them and learn about their jobs and responsibilities.

Grade 2 students visited the Museum of Islamic Art. First, we toured some rooms to learn about Geometry in Islamic Art. After that, we participated in a Geometric Pattern Workshop where students learned that a circle is the mother of all shapes. We created our own symmetrical stars.It was a fun experience! Lastly, we walked around the museum looking for patterns and we drew them! Enjoy viewing our photos.

Our Arts Week celebration was a great experience for students to showcase all that they have learned during our first unit of inquiry about patterns. Students were proud to show their gymnastics routines that they created in P.E class, the parachute pattern from Music class and as well as the tie-dye skills they acquired in Art class. Students were very excited to have their parents celebrating Arts Week with them!

Grade 2 celebrated Earth Day! We engaged in activities that enabled us to reflect about human impact on the earth and ways that we can make positive changes to take care of our earth.

It was a blast this week as we celebrated Book Week. Students enjoyed participating in different activities like anticipating our mystery readers and listening to them as well as “camping” in the library.

Our book character parade was amazing. Children displayed their unique costumes about their favourite book character.

Grade 2 children visited the Souq Waqif during the unit last week. They learnt about the different places and things that are sold in this wonderful market. It was a fantastic journey! Enjoy viewing our photos.

Grade 2 children were proud to share the new knowledge that they acquired about Homes and Family Histories during our celebration of learning. Children shared in-depth insights into some homes around the world.

Grade 2 children visited the Msheireb Museum. They learnt about some families in Qatar, their histories and how houses were built in Qatar many years ago.
